Happiness and Dogs
The requirements for this project were to make a 2 minute long video answering the question "what is the truth of happiness?" I did a lot of research on how animals, specifically dogs, impact people happiness. I decided to make a stop motion video. I used an app/editor called Stop Motion Studio. I ended up taking over 800 frames/picture for the final video. After I filmed, I created a script, and my sister was kind enough to help, and she narrated the video using the script I wrote. Throughout this process, I created roughly 6 prototypes, most of my prototypes were on paper, but they still helped me immensely with my final product.
Final Video
Prototypes
#1: For this prototype, I tried taking photos without using an editor. This did not work out well because I had nothing to convert it into video form. This made me realize that in order to successfully put all of the photos together to make a video, I needed to use some kind of program or editor.
#2: This prototype was one of the few storyboards that I made. Making storyboards helped me to plan out my video and what I was going to include in my video.
#3: This is another planning prototype. This prototype was more detailed and it helped me to know more specific part of my video and how I was going to incorporate the material.
#4: This is a mind map that I made. I have found mind maps to be very helpful when I am trying to come up with ideas. This mind map helped me to figure out what facts I wanted to include in my video.
#5: This is another mind map that I made as a prototype. This mind map was on making a good stop motion video. This was helpful because I made me think about what to be aware of when making my video (like lighting).
#6: This prototype was yet another planning prototype. This planning was very simple and basic, but it still helped me to reach my final product.
Inspiration
For this project, we were asked to find a "mentor" video that inspired our video. When I first heard about this project, I knew that I wanted to create a stop motion video. I did a little bit of research on stop motion and i came across a great, more like many great, mentor videos. I decided to have my mentor as the person/creator of theses videos instead of just one of her videos. The mentor I choose was Trisha Zemp. She is an amazing stop motion artist. I actually e-mailed her and asked her a few questions about stop motion, and she replied. Visit her website here.
